Welcome to Digital Television -Eric

It's 11:42am and the digital television era is now less than an hour old.  At 11:00am today we turned off our analog service and turned on the digital signal.  Imagine that after 60 years of television broadcasting the same way using the same technology it's now finally time to move TV into the digital era.

So far so good.  We have not received a torrent of calls from viewers who cannot watch LA 18.  We expect that as the day goes on there may be more.  The challenge for us is to provide service to the community in the different languages we serve ranging from Korean to Chinese to Tagalog.  We suspect that the vast majority of calls will come from our most vulnerable viewers who are likely to be ellderly and linguistically isolated.  Other stations have reported an overwhelming number of calls from viewers who can no longer watch their favorite shows.  While we are expecting some disruption for viewers, overall the Asian Pacific American audience in LA is far better acquainted with digital TV than other populations because so many stations, including channel 18, have been airing digital channels for the past year or so.

We'll have an update later in the day to keep you posted on how the first day of digital television is proceeding.

I have had DTV for over four months now and have enjoyed all the KSCI family of digital channels. However, after the transition today, my reception of signal from all 18.# channels has disappeared. We have a boosted antenna, but it does not seem to help this problem, though I have gotten other new channels. Is there a planned move by KSCI to boost their signal in anyway?
